Joi Ito addresses the MIT Media Lab for the first time


I was finishing up my Social Television class today, when one of the instructors mentioned that the MIT's new director, Joi Ito, was going to be addressing the researchers, staff, and faculty via Skype (he was apparently in Jordan or somewhere in the Middle East, but will be coming to campus in early May). There's a lot of excitement in the Media Lab about this appointment; Ito is young and unconventional (as one friend at the lab told me, he's a gamer and he dropped out of Tufts!), he has led entrepreneurial ventures, and has that creative/civic sensibility that is so highly valued here.

Using my iPod touch, I captured the first ten minutes of his address in the atrium, plus a few questions from the crowd. Here's how it went:
